The exhortations of former President Donald Trump for demonstrations ahead of his expected indictment in New York have largely elicited restrained reactions from his supporters. Even some of his most fervent adherents have disregarded the notion as either a pointless endeavor or a ploy by law enforcement.

This indifference raises inquiries into whether Trump, despite being a prominent Republican contender in the 2024 presidential race with a devoted following, still possesses the influence to mobilize far-right supporters, as he did more than two years ago before the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the United States Capitol. It also implies that the hundreds of apprehensions that followed the Capitol riot, not to mention the convictions and lengthy prison sentences, may have diminished the desire for another bout of widespread unrest.

However, law enforcement personnel in New York are still closely monitoring online conversations that threaten protests and violence if Trump is arrested. The threats vary in specificity and credibility and are mainly disseminated through online channels and chat groups. Some messages have urged armed protesters to obstruct law enforcement agents and endeavor to prevent any potential arrest, according to four officials who spoke with The Associated Press.
As the Manhattan courthouse complex opened on Monday morning, a truck from the New York Police Department commenced delivering numerous portable metal barricades that could potentially be employed to obstruct streets or sidewalks.

The New York Young Republican Club held a minor demonstration in Lower Manhattan on Monday, and a few inflammatory yet solitary posts materialized on fringe social media platforms from supporters who called for an armed showdown with law enforcement at Trump's Florida estate .
