How I use A-Zoom Snap Caps (dummy rounds) to practice the Type 2 Malfunction clearing drill. A Type 2 malfunction is also known as a failure to eject or a "Stovepipe".

Products used in the video:*

Snap-Caps (dummy rounds) A-Zoom 9mm: https://amzn.to/3M4GfWP
Snap Caps (dummy rounds) A-Zoom All calibers: https://amzn.to/3zjCfKx
Snap Caps (dummy rounds) other brands: https://amzn.to/3Kokccl

***Note: Some Snap Caps are not designed for "dry firing" (actually pressing the trigger). Be sure to select a product is designed for dry firing. (the first selection above is the one you want in 9mm)

Practicing the Type 2 Malfunction clearing drill is pretty straightforward, in this video I will demonstrate SAFELY practicing the drill using Snap Caps (also known as dummy rounds).

A Type 2 Malfunction, or failure to eject means that the gun failed to completely eject the spent brass from the round that was just fired. The brass then prevents the slide from completing the cycling process and prevents the gun from loading the next round.

The clearing process simply removes the offending brass and loads a new round into the chamber.

While the Type 2 Malfunction clearing drill can be practiced with an empty gun, I find that using Snap Caps provides the most realistic experience.

I am using a Glock 17 to demonstrate the Type 2 Pistol Malfunction clearing drill, but the drill is the same for virtually any semiautomatic handgun. You will just need the correct caliber Snap Caps for your particular pistol.
