Reacting To Aaron Rodgers 49ers Trade Rumor

Earlier today I was scrolling through the Green Bay Packers reddit page and came across a new rumor that is beginning to circulate around the internet about the 49ers ready to pounce at trading for Rodgers if the Jets deal falls through.

I hadn’t heard of Craig Carton until recently and apparently he has a radio show in New York. So I have no clue if he has reliable sources in the NFL or if this is his idea.

Now my first question after seeing this, is this true? If I had to guess I would say it’s not very likely. But as a Packers fan I am all for another team getting involved. A bidding war would be the best possible outcome for the Packers when it comes to compensation.

A trade between the Jets and Packers has still not happened which means they clearly are still not quite on the same page. Recently Brian Gutekunst said that the Packers don’t necessarily need the Jets first round pick but that they should get sufficient capital for trading a premium player.

It would honestly be funny if that 49ers actually want to get involved. The Jets organization has been acting like it’s already a done deal. While I would much rather Rodgers get sent to the AFC if the 49ers offered a much better deal I’d be fine with a trade to the 49ers. Currently they have Trey Lance, Brock Purdy, and they signed Sam Darnold. The 49ers have thrived with average QB play for years. If Rodgers was on that roster they’d easily be super bowl favorites.

One of the issues with this scenario is the fact that they don’t have a 1st or 2nd round pick in the 2023 draft. They do have lots of offensive weapons: Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Chrstian Mccafrey, Brandon Aiyuk. Maybe we could do something like a 2024 2nd and Brandon Aiyuk for Aaron Rodgers? The 49ers would still have plenty of weapons and the Packers would get much needed help for Jordan Love.

The other factor that would have to align would be Aaron Rodgers willingness to be traded to the 49ers because he could threaten retirement if he is traded. So the Packers wouldn’t do this unless Aaron Rodgers approved. Rodgers has already stated that he intends to play for the Jets. Personally I think the 49ers with Aaron Rodgers would be more dangerous than the Jets with Aaron Rodgers. Would he be willing to change his mind?

I honestly hope this is true because it could force the Jets to pony up the capital that Brian Gutekunst is looking for. The more Aaron Rodgers suitors the better.
