DANGER ZONE: Firefighters In Hazmat Suits Clean Up Chemical Spill
Firefighters in Australia braved a dangerous cleanup mission as they handled a massive chemical spill at a transport business.
Responders from the Fire and Rescue New South Wales (NSW) dressed in hazmat suits led the risky operation on 3rd April.
The spill occurred when a forklift pierced a steel drum containing 200 litres of Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI), a highly dangerous chemical used in the manufacture of foam and rubber.
Around 100 litres of the liquid spilled onto the roadway.
The FRNSW operation involves scientific experts, HAZMAT specialists, and over 20 firefighters, who are wearing the highest level of chemical protection to contain and recover the spill and decontaminate the area.
The cleanup is now in its final stages, and there have been no reports of illness or injury at this stage.
