Our story begins with Grady Hendrix, who in 2019 shared his terrifying experience on Twitter. Grady was just a kid, and like any other kid, he loved to sneak down to the kitchen in the middle of the night to snack on anything he could find. But one night, something happened that changed his life forever.

When Grady turned 9 years old, he realized he could sneak downstairs and eat anything he wanted in the fridge, and no one would ever notice. He could make a peanut butter, Cheez Whiz, and mayo sandwich, eat leftover pizza, and scrape off the icing from birthday cakes. As long as he was careful, he could do anything! The hardest part was creeping down the pitch-dark house like a tiny ninja.

One night in May 1981, Grady ordered food from the Fish & Shrimp House, waited until everyone was asleep, and crept downstairs to eat the leftover sweet and sour pork. It took him forever, but he finally made it to the den. Suddenly, he heard a fork clicking on the counter. He froze in terror. The microwave clock light showed the outline of a man sitting at their kitchen counter. He couldn't see Grady, but Grady saw him: a skinny guy eating their leftovers and drinking their milk from the carton.

Grady slowly backed away, crept upstairs, and woke up his parents. They took too long to get downstairs, and by the time they did, the kitchen was empty. Everyone dismissed Grady's story, thinking he read too many horror comics. But Grady knew something was wrong.

He started tracking the position of everything in the kitchen and kept a steak knife under his pillow.
In August, while Grady was reading in his room, he looked up and saw a pair of eyes watching him from behind the A/C vent over his bed. Naturally, he freaked out and raised hell until his parents searched the attic and crawl space under the house. They found nothing.Needless to say Grady wasn't very popular for a few weeks in the house.

The last week of August, their house started to smell. One night, rice fell out of the vent over Grady's bed. Maggots. The A/C people said something had probably crawled into their vents and died. It turns out that what had crawled into their vents and died was the guy who he saw in his kitchen in May. He had been living in the vents since May, at least.

He had put a foam pad beside Grady's bedroom vent, so he'd be comfortable while watching him. The police said he'd made lots of "drawings," but when Grady asked, they pretended they hadn't said anything. No one ever identified him. He was buried as a John Doe.

Grady's story is a chilling reminder of the dangers that can lurk in the darkness. It's a story that will make you want to check your vents and crawl spaces, just to be sure. Who knows what could be hiding there, waiting for the perfect moment to strike?
