On a Sunday afternoon, in Fort Worth, Texas, a small group of people from an anti-LGBTQ nonprofit called Protect Texas Kids staged a protest across the street from a restaurant hosting a drag show. A group of counter-protesters, wearing helmets, tactical vests, and armed with handguns and long guns, also arrived and stood in front of the restaurant. At around 12:50 p.m. CT, a member of the counter-protest group crossed the street and allegedly sprayed pepper spray at the Protect Texas Kids group. When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he evaded and swung his closed fists at them. Another counter-protester then intervened and swung an umbrella at the officers. Both suspects continued to resist arrest, prompting police to deploy a directed response unit to assist. When the officers instructed the rest of the counter-protesters to move to the sidewalk, a third member repeatedly tried to charge past the officers to gain access to the suspects. Three people were arrested in total, facing charges of assault causing bodily injury, evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, interfering with public duties, and assaulting a peace officer.
