More About "Bliss is Orange":
Claire rushes into a coffee shop, late for her shift as a barista. She immediately notices that her coworker April is in a bad mood, and asks her how her date went the night before. April admits that although it was a yellow match, the date was horrible and she thinks her “chip” may be be defective. They hold their arms next to each other, a small white light illuminating on the underside of their wrists, to compare implants. These chips use a color coding system to match happiness compatibility to other people in your vicinity, have been revered by technological giants, and sponsored by the Catholic Church. A green match, the most rare color indicating you’ve found “the one”, has only ever happened once anywhere in the world. That couple is getting married by the Pope in the Vatican and Elon Musk is sending them on a trip to the moon. In the middle of tending to the cafe’s plants, a couple walks in the door and Claire’s chip turns green. Freaking out, Claire prepares to meet “the one” and jumpstart a greater life than she ever could have imagined. From behind the counter, Claire admires the tall, handsome man that walked in the door and calms her nerves to turn to him with a smile. However, when she hands him his latte, his wrist is not green. Confused, she watches him walk away. She slides the second drink over to his girlfriend...and sees that this woman is her green match. Stunned, they take each other in, communicating shock, wonder, and admiration with just a look. However, Claire notices the cross hanging from the woman’s neck. The woman touches it, gives Claire a pained look, and leaves the coffee shop with her boyfriend. Claire stands by the window, watches them walk away, and the green light in her wrist goes dark.
