15 Most Intelligent Animals Helping Their Owners
Humans are supposed to be the most intelligent animals on planet earth, but when I look at the state of our planet, I really wonder if that is true. Maybe it is, but you would be surprised how many other animals are highly intelligent and it is not always the ones you expect. Did you know that crows are extremely intelligent and so are rats? I bet you did not know that. Who is the most intelligent animal on the planet?

Elephant

Elephants have always been considered highly intelligent animals. They have amazing memory and great communication skills. They are also self-aware and that is not the case with every animal. For instance, if you put a dog in front of a mirror, the dog will think it is another dog looking at him. Elephants are self-aware, and they are capable of empathy. When they tested elephants with the mirror test, the elephant looked at itself just like humans do. Elephants can also identify languages.

Another thing elephants can do very well is use tools such as sticks to scratch themselves in areas they can’t reach. I do that a lot when my back itches. Another amazing behavior an elephant display is the mourning of the dead. When one of theirs dies, they touch the bones with their trunk and they even try to bury the remains. They will stand hours near the dead body of another elephant but will not do so when animals of other species are dead. They can also mimic human voices. That does not mean they understand the meaning of the words, but one elephant was able to pronounce a few Korean words after having heard his trainer pronounce them.

Octopus

The Octopus has many weapons in its arsenal which includes changing colors, squirting out a nice dose of poison when need be, and exerting a force that is greater than their own body weight. Does that mean the octopus is a smart creature? They are smart in their own unique way which means they have been observed having to choose what to eat between clams and mussels and they chose the easiest one to open, which were the mussels.

It takes intelligence to figure that out. Octopuses play and when an animal plays it means he has at least half a brain. They also have personalities, and they will react to things in various ways which is proof of a certain kind of intelligence. By invertebrate standards, the octopus has a huge brain, but compared to vertebrates, it is tiny. So, in the end, the octopus is smart for an octopus but is it as smart as other animals. I will let you figure that one out for yourself.
