Seeing the signs of dehydration on orchid leaves and pseudobulbs can happens for 2 reasons. Dehydration on orchid leaves can happen if the orchid was not watered regularly. Dehydration on orchid leaves can happen if the orchid's root system is so compromised that the orchid is not able to take up any water. In the case of my cattleya, we have an orchid that has been through some stressful signs, and I explain how this happened. Also, know that, bifoliate cattleyas are known for dumping their old root system on a regular basis. So, it is best practice to plan your repot of an orchid with a dead root system, when new roots are growing!
