Because of this, I compiled 5 of the best free video editing software for Mac, Windows, and Linux in my opinion!

Blender is a free, open-source video editor, that is often compared to Cinema4D. You're able to do basic video editing as well as very advanced 3D compositing & VFX in this editor. I would recommend using this editor if you plan on incorporating your video editing with 3D elements you create in this software.

Kapwing is one of the best free, collaborative, web-based video editors I could find when doing research for this video. I would recommend using this video editing software if you're making videos for social media (Instagram Reels, IGTV, TikTok, YouTube) or are working with a team, requiring multiple people to edit a video.

iMovie and Windows Movie Maker (now know as Video Editor) are on this list because of their ease-of-use, accessibility, and because everyone has one or the other already downloaded. I would recommend using either of these editors if you plan on making very simple videos (just cutting clips, adding music, adding transitions).

DaVinci Resolve is one of the most used video editing software there is! A ton of movies, TV shows, and large-scale video projects are color-graded & edited in the software. It is by far the best video editor on this list. I'm surprised it's not a paid software.
