Detroit: Become Human is a video game produced by Quantic Dream and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows PC. The story revolves around Kara, Markus and Connor, three androids designed by the fictional company CyberLife who, depending on the decisions they make, will change the course of the city of Detroit and, consequently, of the United States of America. In addition, it will witness the emergence of a new race: The Divergent (androids that manifest human emotions).

Detroit: Become Human is based on Quantic Dream Kara's 2012 tech demo, which also starred Curry. To research the setting, the developers visited Detroit, Michigan. The screenplay took over two years to complete by writer and director David Cage. They built a new engine to complement the game and cast hundreds of actors before starting the filming and animation process. Philip Sheppard, Nima Fakhrara and John Paesano served as songwriters for Kara, Connor and Markus, respectively. It was released for PlayStation 4 in May 2018 and Microsoft Windows in December 2019.

Detroit: Become Human received generally favorable reviews from critics, who praised the setting, the visuals, minor story moments, the main characters, their voice actors, the impact choices they had on the narrative, and the flowchart feature, but criticized the motion controls, mishandling of historical and thematic allegories, and aspects of the plot and characters. The game is Quantic Dream's most successful release, with sales in excess of 3 million.

Prologue

Kara (Valorie Curry), is an AX400 model android designed exclusively for domestic activities. Upon returning to her owner Todd Williams' home after it has been repaired, she meets Alice again, Todd's only daughter. When she realizes that he has an unstable and aggressive temper, Kara runs away with Alice to start a new life together.

Markus (Jesse Williams), is an android model RK200 designed to take care of Carl Manfred, a renowned painter confined to a wheelchair. Over time, Carl forms a father-son bond with Markus that his biological son Leo disapproves of. After a conflict with Leo, Markus ends up in a dump where he will be reborn determined to lead a group of deviants to fight for the freedom of androids.

Connor (Bryan Dechart), is the most recent android model, an RK800, whose function is to offer assistance to investigators. However, with the proliferation of deviants, CyberLife offers its prototype to the Detroit police and Connor becomes partnered with Lieutenant Hank Anderson. The android must thus gain Hank's trust in the risky investigation into the phenomenon that could be the source of the divergence, finding himself faced with the decision between betraying his species or who created him.
