Abolition of Slavery Announced in Texas on Juneteenth, Remembering James Gandolfini | 6.19.2023

On the series premiere of Good Morning History, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War was over and slavery in the United States was officially abolished in what is now known as Juneteenth. The first Republican Party convention ended on this day. Plus, a look back at the opening of the first nickelodeon movie theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And finally, a look at the life and legacy of the late actor James Gandolfini, who died at a heart attack while on vacation in Rome, Italy, 10 years ago. The actor who played Tony Soprano on HBO's "The Sopranos" was 51 years old.
