The STEARNS Youth Boating Vest (50-90 lbs.) is a great purchase that I made for a 6-year-old who is larger than average. I was pleased to see how safe and secure he felt while wearing it in the water, and he swam with a lot of confidence.
Although this life jacket is meant for children up to 90 pounds, I found that it barely fit my 52-pound granddaughter. I wish that the straps were a bit longer, so we could use it for a while longer.
One downside to this vest is that it needs to have a “crotch” strap to keep it from floating upwards above the touch of the shoulders. However, it still works well as a flotation jacket in the pool.
Despite the slight sizing issue, my son loves his life vest, although I cannot make it tight enough to prevent it from riding up around his neck. But, it will still fit him for a while and works well in the pool.
I bought this for my granddaughter who is nine years old and weighs 83 pounds, but it was a little too snug on her middle parts. However, my grandson fits perfectly, although I am not sure of his weight, but he is six years old.
When I received this life jacket, I was extremely pleased that it was exactly as pictured and described. It met my expectations. If you are looking for a Boys Youth 50-90 lb size, this is a great option, especially during Spring Break.
I shopped around in many brick-and-mortar stores, and all I found were girly colors - no traditional boy colors. Any Youth 50-90 lb we did find were significantly higher priced, two to four times higher.
