Investment Diversification: Strategy or Buzzword?

In this week’s edition of Monday Money, we want to cover the topic of investment diversification. It has become quite common in advertisements, discussions over portfolio strategy, and more to use this terminology…but what does it actually mean?

Today we want to give you a simple understanding and get to the reason why diversification in your portfolio is important. If you are someone who invests money yourself, it is crucial to understand. If you are someone who does not invest money yourself, it is still important because at the end of the day, it’s your money and you need to understand what it is doing and why unless your future might look different than you expect it to.

Summary:
1. Maintaining a non-correlated portfolio is important for helping manage risk.
2. Your level of risk could be hurting your portfolio performance by way of interrupting your compounding interest.
3. Keeping a tighter “window” or “frame” on your investment performance could allow you to more accurately plan for your future retirement, educational funding, business planning, etc.
