After a nearly two-year wait, David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman‘s “Foundation” returns to Apple TV+ this month for its second season. Based on Isaac Asimov‘s classic sci-fi tales, “Foundation” follows a sect of humans with psionic and their attempt to protect their species in the universe over a thousand years. But the threats to humanity and its galactic empire come from all sides, even from the inside out…

Season 2 of “Foundation” picks up the story over a century after the Season 1 finale, with The Foundation entering a religious phase to protect itself.

More than a century after the season one finale, tension mounts throughout the galaxy in “Foundation” season two. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy Empire from within. Hari, Gaal and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities that threaten to alter psychohistory itself. The Foundation has entered its religious phase, promulgating the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Reach and inciting the Second Crisis: war with Empire. The monumental adaptation of “Foundation” chronicles the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.

Lee Pace and Jared Harris return to headline “Foundation” Season 2, along with Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, and Terrence Mann. But the latest season of the sci-fi drama sees a lot of new faces join the cast, too. Newcomers include Isabella Laughland, Kulvinder Ghir, Ella-Rae Smith, Holt McCallany, Rachel House, Nimrat Kaur, Ben Daniels, and Dmitri Leonidas.

Goyer returns as showrunner on “Foundation,” and also serves as executive producer on the series with Alex Graves, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bill Bost, Robin Asmiov, and Marcy Ross. Skydance Television produces “Foundation” for Apple.

So how will Apple TV+ subscribers take to the new season of “Foundation”? Critical response to the first season was generally positive, so hopes are high that Season 2 will catch on even more. “Foundation” Season 2 premieres on the streamer on July 14. Watch a new trailer for the series below.

Apple TV+ has released one last full-length trailer for the second season of its long-in-the-works adaptation of Isaac Asmiov’s hard sci-fi novel series “Foundation”.

The story chronicles a band of exiles on their unprecedented journey to rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire.

Four crucial individuals who transcend space and time are faced with deadly crises, shifting loyalties and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.

Beginning more than a century after the season one finale (which aired almost two years ago), the new run sees tension mounting throughout the galaxy. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy the Empire from within.
The ensemble cast includes Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, and Cassian Bilton, who are joined in the new run by Isabella Laughland, Kulvinder Ghir, Sandra Yi Sencindiver, Ella-Rae Smith, Dimitri Leonidas, Ben Daniels, Holt McCallany, Rachel House, and Nimrat Kaur.
David S. Goyer serves as showrunner of the series, with the second season arriving on the platform on July 14th and running through to September 15th.
