All-is-Forgiven Caramels
1 cup butter
4 cups granulated sugar
2 cups light corn syrup
2 cans (12 ounces) evaporated milk
1 tsp vanilla

Place butter, sugar, and syrup in a heavy-bottom saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the mixture begins to boil (5-10 minutes). Very gradually add the canned milk stirring constantly. Should take 12-15 minutes PER CAN. Continue stirring until it reaches firm ball stage (238 degrees F). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into a 9x13 pan that is generously buttered or lined with parchment paper. Refrigerate until hardened.
