Is Islam The New Communism?

Throughout the Cold War, the American public was united against an ideological threat called Communism, which was physically represented by the armies and nuclear arsenals of Soviet Russia and China. Today, the COld War is a memory - but America is now obsessed with the threat of radical Islam. Could it be that America has simply replaced Communism with Islam as the external threat that galvanizes the nation?
