Spearfishing Key Largo - Black Grouper & Hogfish Catch N' Cook

Another day here in the Florida Keys. It looks a bit stormy, but you can't stop us when we have spearfishing on our minds. We head out of Tavernier Creek and run out to the patch reefs between Tavernier Key and Rodriguez Key in about 13-15 feet of water.

We already had some hogfish last week so our main goal was to get a grouper. We see tons of hogfish which we mostly left alone. Except for 2. Then I come across a black grouper. Initially I thought it was a Red Grouper, but luckily this black grouper was still of legal size.

I saw some great life on the reef and even found some lobster. I can't wait for mini season which is only a couple days away! It started to rain, but there was no lightning. A common event here in Key Largo! After the rain calms down a bit I find a nice barracuda and decide to take it since I know they make great bait for deep dropping. We did a catch n cook, but it's a little short. Just a picture of the cook and I guess the catch part too lol It's a catch and cook!

Overall this was a fun spearfishing trip and everyday I love the reefs here off Key Largo more and more. I can't wait to get back out. Expect some great lobster catching videos for mini season! I already have some spots marked and can't wait to slay them!
