This week's episode focuses on the Union's attempt to take seize Port Hudson and take control of the Mississippi River. The first battle, named Plains Store, took place on May 21st, 1863 in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was the first step in trying to capture Port Hudson. The last battle of the episode which is the seige of Port Hudson took place from May 22nd to July 9th. The Union placed Port Hudson under siege that lasted 48 and was the longest siege in American history up to that point.
