Past ITV news reports on the plans to house 1500 migrants at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire.

It follows the significant agreement made by West Lindsey District Council to renovate RAF Scampton in order to bring in £300 million in investment and generate jobs. Although the government expressed interest in sheltering asylum seekers at the historic Dambusters headquarters, that idea was then called into question.

A job advertisement for housing officers to assist asylum seekers in Scampton was published by Serco, but it has now been taken down. Also, a letter with 40 historians' signatures was delivered to Suella Braverman, the home secretary. The suggested ideas are "extremely worrisome," it was noted.

Most recently, the petition 'Stop RAF Scampton Being Transformed into a Detention Camp' was started by Hamish Falconer, the Labour candidate for Lincoln. It currently has around 20,000 signatures and is still rising.

Prominent figures have spoken out in favour of RAF Scampton, notably Sir Edward Leigh MP and Nigel Farage. Mr. Farage has termed the asylum seeker proposals a "act of cultural vandalism" and urged people to sign the petition.
