How to Grow an Avocado from Seed
When avocado season swings around I can't resist chucking a few in water to watch them grow. It takes a little patience but it's so fun to see the seed splitting open and that little tap root making an appearance. Even though it's better to move it to soil before the root gets too big they'll grow pretty big in water so if you just want a fun project to watch then keep it in water and if you want to grow it into a pot plant - or even one for the garden - then get it into soil.
As far as I know, avocados grown from a shop bought avocado seed won't grow any avocados and even if it did, it'd take around 10 years and they wouldn't be the same as the avocado you got the seed from. If you want it to grow fruit you need to wait until it gets big enough and then graft on part of an already fruiting tree.
