Chicken Nugget in Space

Did we really send a chicken nugget into space? Of course we did. Why wouldn't we? When we were challenged to help Iceland celebrate 50 successful years as the UK's leading frozen food retailer, sending a frozen chicken nugget into space just felt... right.

Of course, we're old hands when it comes to launching food into space. You might remember the pie seen around the world, which we launched back in 2016 to promote the World Pie Eating Championships. But the chicken nugget is a firm favourite of our engineering team, so this opportunity was a cause very close to our hearts.

The nugget, launched from a remote site in Wales, travelled over 100,000 feet into the air, floating above the Earth in view of the curved horizon and the black vacuum of space. As a frozen snack, it was well equipped to handle the subzero temperatures and extreme low pressures of the Near Space region.

For more information about this monumental technical and creative achievement, check out our blog post about the launch here:

Sent Into Space are the Near Space experts.

We use lighter-than-air gas balloons to travel to the upper stratosphere into Near Space, where you can see the curvature of the Earth (Flat Earth believers need not reply!), the black vacuum of space and the thin blue line of the Earth's atmosphere on the horizon.

This is more than just a GoPro on a weather balloon. We build a bespoke launch vehicle for each flight utilising the latest in camera technology and long-range radio and satellite communications. We film HD video of the Earth from space for stunning images of the curvature of the Earth.

With over 500 successful flights over the last 8 years, we're the only company to go to when you want to launch something into space. To find out more, visit https://www.sentintospace.com
