THE MOST HAUNTED ABANDONED MANSION IN THE PHILIPPINES CAUGHT A DEMON | VILLA EPIFANIA
In the 1930s, Villa Epifania emerged as an architectural gem in the heart of Floridablanca, Pampanga. Its name pays homage to Dona Epifania from the illustrious Alvendias clan. Originally, the land on which the villa stands was the pride of the Guanzon family, with Captain Pitong, the Capitan Municipal of Santa Rita, as its patriarch. The baton was later passed to his son, Don Olympio Guanzon, who constructed a house there in 1925. This house, however, was later dismantled to make way for the villa, brought to life by Architect Mariano Pineda, a kin of the Guanzons. Amidst the chaos of World War II, the villa provided refuge, serving as the command center for Japanese officers, USAFE guerillas, and local leaders.
A beacon of modernity between 1931 and 1932, Villa Epifania set itself apart, being the sole entirely concrete residence in town. Its architecture is robust, with walls as thick as a foot and a unique gallery of windows gracing its western facade. Further adding to its charm is the azotea, which grants viewers a scenic vista of the western agricultural expanse, land once overseen by prestigious clans like the Guanzons. The villa also showcases Philippine hardwood sections, and its grand furniture, sourced in 1931 from the Philippine Carnival in Manila, is said to be the handiwork of Bilibid prison inmates. Architectural highlights like colored glass fixtures, a granite stairway, a majestic veranda, and ornate pillars make it a sight to behold. With a construction expense hitting 90,000 pesos, its significance was further immortalized in famous filipino horror films.
Whispers and tales of the villa's past keep the locals intrigued. While some recall its wartime significance as a haven for Japanese soldiers, others recount more harrowing tales of the town's inhabitants suffering unspeakable atrocities within its walls. These tragic episodes are believed to have given rise to restless spirits, casting a shadow on the villa's beauty and making it a beacon for both awe-inspiring architecture and chilling legends.
