Authorities in India move to clear slums, stray dogs ahead of G20 summit in Delhi

Indian authorities have increased security measures and deployed thousands of personnel to protect the India's capital, New Delhi, as it prepares to host the G20 summit, starting Sept. 9.

As part of the preparations, slum areas in the city are being demolished, which the government has claimed is part of its continuous efforts to remove illegal constructions on government land. However, many activists have raised concerns over the government's motives and the impact on the affected communities.

In addition to the demolitions, authorities have also started rounding up stray dogs in the city using nets and relocating them to shelters. The move has been criticized by animal activists, who argue that the dogs should not be treated as a nuisance, but rather provided with proper care and support.

Friendicoes, an organization working with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), has captured 234 dogs using nets and relocated them to its three shelters in the city.
