In this video, Dr. Berg talks about how stress and sugar can alter your pH. Every part of the body has a different pH. The reference point of too alkaline and too acid pH is the blood, it has a very narrow pH of 7.35 to 7.45, in which 7 is the neutral and higher than 7 is alkaline. The pH varies when you consume too much sugar versus experiencing too much stress.

SUGAR
• Refined sugar or refined carbs could cause the body to be more acidic.
• The body will develop a condition called Lactic Acid, the body is not breaking down certain sugar of byproducts building up in the blood.
• Diabetic Type I could create a condition called Diabetic Ketoacidosis that could cause hyperventilation and could lead to respiratory alkalosis.

Lactic Acidosis Symptoms:
• Breathing Problems
• Fatigue
• Increase Heart Rate
• Headache
• Restless Leg Syndrome
• Nervous

Other Cause of Lactic Acidosis:
• Liver Dysfunction
• Vitamin B1 Deficiency
• Alcohol
• Metformin (Diabetes Medication)

STRESS
• It causes the blood pH to be more alkaline or alkalosis.
• Stress increases cortisol and it causes excess loss of the hydrogen ion.

Alkalosis Symptoms:
• Hand Tremor
• Confusion
• Light Headedness
• Muscles Twitch (Tetany)
• Numb – Face/Hand/Feet

Remedies for Alkalosis:
• Apple Cider Vinegar
• Vegetables for Potassium

Today we're going to talk about how stress and sugar can alter your pH. A lot of times I get all these questions about pH, what pH should your body be, well here's what you need to know, every part of your body has a different pH, the saliva, the blood, fluid inside your intestine, the fluid inside your gallbladder, inside your stomach, all these different pH's. But when we're talking about pH whether you're too alkaline or too acid, the reference point is the blood. The blood has a very narrow pH of 7.35 to 7.45 - 7 is neutral, when it goes higher, it is alkaline. So if the blood is slightly alkaline in a very narrow range. If the pH rises, it is more alkaline. If the pH lowers, it's more acidic and we're basing this off of the blood. Now the pH varies if you're consuming too much sugar versus experiencing too much stress. So let's start with sugar, if you consume a lot of sugar or refined carbs, your body will tend to go more acid, you develop a condition called lactic acid, it's a situation where you're not breaking down all that sugar and there's certain byproducts building up in the blood, lactate and you're actually just forming in this situation where you're too acidic. So the energy factor of the cells, the mitochondria have a carburetor in there, in the carburetor you have fuel and you have an oxygen and you have a spark plug. This is a situation where you're dumping too much fuel into the body with not enough oxidation of that fuel and we're getting a lot of fuel that's not being used and you body is acidifying with the byproduct and you're getting fatigue big-time. And by the way, you need B vitamins and magnesium to act as a spark plug to get that to work.
