"Long Dark Road," written by Tony Hicks and Kenny Lynch, was the Hollies' 10th top 40 hit rising to no. 26 in the winter of 1972 (Whitburn, 2013). Graham Nash had left the band in 1968 to help form Crosby , Stills & Nash, and Terry Sylvester replaced Nash on guitar and vocals (callmefred, 2023). Gary Brooker (of Procol Harum fame) played organ and piano for the recording of the song (wikipedia, 2023). The song can be found as the last track on the 1971 album Distant Light, which was the highest charting album for the Hollies; it rose to the no. 21 position on the Billboard 200 Albums chart in 1972 (Whitburn, 2006).
