Hell No, Not Again!

This is my self filmed hunting video from Monday, 10/9/23 at 4:45 pm, there is a steady 10-15 mph Northwest wind, with gusts up to 20. A young doe, and buck fawn come in, browse, eat, and just enjoy the day. I record them and enjoy their company, they look up at me several times, but don’t scent me or make the connection. There are three wild apple trees within 20 yards of where I’m sitting 20’ up in a poplar tree. Both doe & fawn walk around my tree, while their heading away from me I check my camera battery life as they were there a total of about twelve minutes, the camera battery had only 54 minutes left on it which sometimes can be much less as my batteries are older, so I replace the battery with a fresh one. As I reposition the camera back where it was, I then catch a glimpse of movement out of the corner of my eye, there’s a nice sized shooter buck, he was following the doe & fawns trail, but then turned around to munch on some grapes, and leaves. I first thought of waiting for him to come in front of me, but then I would have to wait until he turned sideways to get a broadside or quartering away shot, so I decided I’d take the shot he was giving me at 20 yards. I reposition the camera on him; stand up, now my arrow is about two feet higher than the camera, hence the funky arrow flight in the video. I draw, take aim, release, and instantly I hear a loud crack sound that I don’t like, maybe bone, or tree? I wait in the stand for 30 minutes, and then go look over the area. I find my arrow, the nock is missing, and it was in the ground about an inch, behind where the buck was standing, no blood, body fluids, or fat of any kind anywhere on the arrow, a clean miss, but why. I go home and check the video footage and cannot see the flight of the arrow, I edit the footage to slow the video down and finally see the arrow flash through. The next night I go sit in the same stand, look at the trees where the deer stood and take a close up video of all the surrounding trees, sure as shit there’s a mark on the tree right where I was aiming. It’s like a reoccurring nightmare that’s happened too many times it looks like the wing on my three blade Shockwave 125 mechanical broadhead just caught the edge of the tree by 3/8”! Damn, but I’m glad it was a clean miss! Over my lifetime at 62 this year I have had many not so great shots, and I have never had a second chance at the same buck, so maybe this year I’ll get a second chance?
