US & UK block humanitarian aid going to Gaza in Israel conflict.

The UN Security Council has failed to pass an Israel-Gaza aid resolution, with the US voting against it & the UK abstaining.
Right, so the USA and the UK have just kiboshed humanitarian aid to Gaza, making you wonder truly, how in hock to the Israeli state they must be to deny something as basic as essential like food and water, as well as medicine and medical aid. Last night the United Nations Security Council met after days of negotiations and discussions to hopefully pass a resolution that would have paused events between Israel and Gaza in order to establish a humanitarian response, whilst also condemning the Hamas attack on Israel. It was on the face of it, and in light of these most recent events, the historical aspect of occupation aside, conciliatory towards both parties. Aid needs to get into Gaza, Hamas should be condemned, that’s the here and now that needs to be established surely? Bare minimum. However the resolution failed, because the US voted against it, whilst the UK along with Russia chose to abstain.
Right, so how deeply devoted are the United States, the UK and Russia to the apartheid state of Israel that they can’t even bring themselves to vote to pass a resolution to pause the shooting and the bombing and the killing to let some aid into the worlds largest open air prison, half of who’s population are kids. Well here’s a photo of Joe Biden meeting the chief occupier Benjamin Netanyahu here, I think that pretty much says it all doesn’t it?
Now there’s 15 countries on the United Nations Security Council and unfortunately, it’s hardly a democratic representative body, because some votes are worth more than others, which is why the US voting against this resolution on it’s own was enough to veto it. The nations sitting on the security council are Albania, Brazil, China, Ecuador, France, Gabon, Ghana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Russia, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the UK and the US. However 5 of these countries are permanent members of the council, in other words these nations are always present on it, other countries will come and go. For some reason I cannot fathom the justification of however, these 5 permanent members, seemingly just by virtue that they are permanent members, get a veto over resolutions and if any of them vote against something, that supercedes however many countries vote for it. It might offer a bit of clarity as to why so many people regard the UN as a bit pointless and a bit useless, but when it is so difficult to get anything passed it’s little wonder why that is, it’s a farce quite frankly. Anyway, this resolution had been drafted by Brazil, and it was actually the second resolution to get a humanitarian ceasefire passed, following the bigger defeat of a Russia drafted resolution, which omitted to contain any condemnation of Hamas, more countries didn’t like that. So the Brazilian resolution did include condemnation of Hamas, to placate those who didn’t appreciate that omission.Show more
