Video Description:
Our question today comes from John. I’m going to summarize his question. He asks: People with EDS, which stands for Ehrlers- Danlos Syndrome, have problems absorbing nutrients which results in many deficiencies. What can we do to help with our ligaments and ability to absorb vitamins like B-vitamins, Vitaimin D, c, and magnesium. Any advice would be appreciated.

So, John’s question is what can he do to help his condition and I’m assuming John, you’re also going to want to know how to slow down its progression.

So, the first thing we need to do is address the health of the gut. It’s imperative to keep your gut healthy and aid in the digestion process. If you do not do this, you will be prone to systemic inflammation which will speed up the progression of this condition. First and most importantly, you need to make sure you are always taking a good quality digestive enzyme and HCL (also known as betaine HCL) with every meal. This will help with your digestion and will also improve nutrient absorption. Dr M & I use Pure Encapsulations digestive enzymes ultra with betaine. You can also use Premier research labs HCL and Transformations Enzyme corporation puts out an excellent digestive enzyme. Also Garden of life has an excellent digestive enzyme formula.

Next, you must make sure you’re following an Anti-inflammatory diet. This is going to be a better approach than a ketogenic diet because of the slow digestion you will experience. Make sure you’re getting in high quality proteins and eggs are one of the highest quality proteins you can take in. We’ll be releasing 2 videos on eggs so keep your eyes open for them.

Also, it’s important to supplement with bone broth as this will help your collagen, especially since with this condition your collagen breaks down, quickly. It’s extremely important to stay away from processed foods and beverages.

Another thing that you should do to improve your gut health is apply a castor oil pack to your abdomen twice per week. Commonly these packs are used to help with bowel movements but there is research that shows it’s very effective with reducing GI inflammation, slow gut transit time and healing stomach and intestinal problems.

Doing these things will help improve your absorption of vitamins and minerals.

Also, there has been promising treatments with Prolotherapy injections to help stabilize and slow down the degradation of ligamentous laxity. Prolotherapy is a series of injections that contain Extrose, Phebol and Glycerine mixed with lIdocaine.
