The International Space Station (ISS) is a habitable space station that serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory. It is a joint project involving multiple countries, including the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada. The ISS orbits the Earth at an average altitude of approximately 420 kilometers (261 miles) and travels at a speed of roughly 28,000 kilometers per hour (17,500 miles per hour).
