A Cobb County police officer is being called a hero after saving a woman from a burning car Monday near the East West Connector.

Police said, Officer Clay Musselman "put his own safety at peril to save a life" and "went above and beyond the call of duty."

The rescue was caught on body cam footage, which was released Thursday on Cobb County Police's Facebook.

Musselman was initially attempting to stop the woman's car, which was being driven "erratically" at 100 mph on the connector, police said. However, the woman was accused of fleeing from the scene, and the officer was instructed to stop pursuing the car.

Shortly after, police said the car did not yield to a curb and crashed, with flames fully consuming the car. Musselman then approached the scene, not knowing if the woman remained in the burning car.

Police said Musselman was checking the nearby woods for the woman until he heard, "Help." He is seen in the footage breaking the window and pulling the woman out through the window.

The woman suffered a broken arm and hip fracture and was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
