Israeli Soldier Dies of Superbug Infection from Contaminated Gaza Soil

A soldier from Israel, seriously injured in a clash with Hamas fighters in Gaza, has reportedly died after contracting a “superbug” infection from ground soil contaminated with sewer water, as per Israeli media reports on Tuesday.Show more

This soldier, who remains unnamed, was among several soldiers receiving treatment in Israel for multidrug-resistant fungal infections linked to their involvement in the conflict in Gaza.

Unfortunately, he is the first to succumb to the illness.

Israeli medical professionals believe that the soldiers acquired the fungus from Gaza’s contaminated ground soil, which became polluted with sewage and other pollutants due to prolonged bombardments by Israeli forces.

Reports from Gaza as early as October indicated that the streets were “overflowing with sewage,” posing a significant health hazard, The Messenger reported.
