Graceland is an album released by Paul Simon in 1986. The album won the Album of the Year Grammy award, while the title song won the Record of the Year Grammy award, for 1986 and 1987 respectively

Inspired by black South African music on cassettes he heard in his car, Paul Simon arranged a trip to South Africa to fuse his musical genius with that of several black South African musicians, creating the Graceland album and a world tour that ended with this fantastic concert in Harare, Zimbabwe, filmed over 2 performances, in 1987.

In the heart of Africa, amidst the vibrant rhythms of Zimbabwe, Paul Simon unfolded a historic musical tapestry that transcended borders and cultures. The legendary singer-songwriter, known for his contributions to Simon & Garfunkel, embarked on a monumental journey with his album "Graceland," a masterpiece that has become synonymous with the fusion of world music and pop.

Taking the stage at the Rufaro Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe, February 14 & 15, 1987, Paul Simon and his ensemble delivered a performance that can only be described as a breathtaking cultural exchange. The significance of this concert goes beyond mere entertainment; it was a symbolic embrace of diverse sounds and influences, echoing the ethos of "Graceland."

One cannot discuss the Zimbabwe concert without acknowledging the local talent that shared the stage with Simon. The addition of Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba & Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the renowned South African male choral group, brought an abundance of authentic African elements to each performance. The collaboration was seamless, illustrating the power of music to bridge gaps and unite disparate cultures.

Paul Simon's commitment to breaking down musical barriers was not lost on the audience. The Grammy-winning "Graceland" album, with its rich tapestry of influences, had found a new home in Zimbabwe that night.

The concert was a testament to the power of music to foster understanding, connect disparate communities, and create an enduring legacy that resonates far beyond the confines of genre or geography.
