Maine white tail buck hunt November 16, 2023 at 0739 hrs comes to close. I took this 8 pt buck this morning on my property in Monroe, Maine.

“A doe stepped out in pipeline and I let her pass thinking a buck may be following. Sure enough he stepped out probably less than a minute after she continued on. Luckily my gun was up and ready because he was going to stop. I sent a round down range and I heard him crashing hard down through the woods. I climbed down and after a short blood track I found him still. I immediately noticed a point freshly broken off. His head was laying right on a rock. I searched diligently for some time to no avail. I field dressed the deer and walked the half mile back to son, Brody’s, house to get my four wheeler. Even though it was deep in the woods it’s all old growth enough that I was able to drive my four wheeler right to the deer. I got the deer loaded up and tied on the front rack but still really wanted to find that point. I started all over again using a stick to move the leaves individually trying to find this point, but I had no luck. On a last ditch effort I decided to follow the blood trail backwards. I was thinking maybe he’d fall in in a different spot and broke the point off else where. I found where he ran into a tree about 15 feet from where he laid and sure enough that point was right there at the base of that tree. I think he bounced off the tree and then hit a rock at the base of the tree but then got up a went a few more feet. I am sure Sam Cassida will do some magic to get it reattached at Cassida Taxidermy. Allen Weaver met me at Monroe Store where I tagged it and weighed it. He weighed 188 and now hanging in my son, Andrews, barn. We are to cape it when Andrew gets home from sea duck guiding”.
