Venezuelan authorities announced the arrest of 32 civilians and soldiers following a months-long investigation into their alleged involvement in a US-backed “conspiracy” to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro, as revealed by the prosecutor’s office on Monday.

Attorney General Tarek William Saab stated that all suspects had “confessed and disclosed information about the plans” and have been accused of treason, with convictions for their crimes.

Saab, a staunch supporter of Maduro, disclosed that arrest warrants had been issued for 11 others, including rights activists, journalists, and exiled soldiers, involved in the alleged plot that also targeted Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino.

Padrino, addressing the press conference, mentioned that the operation initiated last year to uncover details of the supposed conspiracy was kept confidential, coinciding with “talks” between Maduro and the United States that led to a prisoner exchange, France 24 reported.
