I remixed My Shot from Hamilton (the musical) for a class assignment and performed it live in class.

-Shoutout to Most importantly my project partner, *Aksel* , for composing the lyrics with me
-also a big thanks to *Owen* and *Katelyn* for helping with the recording and production!

Lyrics:

Anthem]
I’m not throwing away my shot
I’m not throwing away my shot
I’ve got a life to live
and I cannot tarry
a sister to care for

[Miriam]
(Verse 1)
well we’d finally made it free from number four
that old stuffy fort was looking kinda sad and poor
we made it back to our house, where a calico dress,
and a party for the guests made sparks fly

(Verse 2)
I’m gonna get married to Mr. Whitney
I probably shouldn’t brag but my looks are kinda pretty
the problem is I’m kinda scared to let him know
about how close I hold him to my heart, but maybe he knows

(Verse 3)
well it’s been a while now we’ve been in war
the nasty french got the indians to hurt us more
but things are cooling down now, outside the fort
it looks like Massachusetts is our next stop, please don’t abort

(Verse 4)
but just the N-E-X-T Day after the P-A-R-T-Y
the Indians, along with neighbor lebree
barged into the house unexpectedly

(Verse 5)
we were made captives and marched up north
the trails were brutal but all my mind could put forth
were thoughts of my sister, her baby, and Phineas Whitney
how could this happen to me

(Verse 6)
The indians were nicer than expected
to me at least they slightly respected
only to find out it was all for the chief
he wanted to marry me that was not a relief

but still…

[Anthem]
I’m not throwing away my shot
I’m not throwing away my shot
I’ve got a life to live
and I cannot tarry
a sister to care for
and a man to marry

I’m not throwing away my shot
I’m not throwing away my shot
I’ve got a life to live
and I cannot tarry
a sister to care for

[Colonists]
(Verse 7)
We’re just your everyday British colonists
farming and surviving off the fruit of the land
now Diggin' deep in the earth, we’re makin' our stand,
‘Gainst the French, we'll claim another piece of this land

[Pierre]
(Verse 8)
those British think they can take our land
but we got here first so we’re in command
how they think they can defeat us I do not know
they aren’t going to beat us but they’ll try to show

[Madame]
(Verse 9)
a British servant girl from down south
they rowed her up the river further from the mouth
she’s handy for the chores, teaching the english
but a little too pretty for my daughter to win this

[Miriam]
(Verse 10)
My lot after I moved up north
wasn’t so bad, but I must bring forth
the fact that James and the ransom cash hadn’t come back
it must be because of the war attack

[Pierre]
(Verse 11)
look, what do we have here?
beautiful mademoiselle can’t you hear?
My attention’s on you, yet you won’t acknowledge
did I offend you? c’mon, give me some knowledge

(Verse 12)
what are the odds o’ gods who put us both in one spot
that we would meat at this party it’s all part o’ the plot
if you’re ever in need just come ask and you’ll receive.
wait, hold on, don’t move, now’s not the time to leave!

[Miriam]
(Verse 13)
but we were sent to the streets just that night
Madame’s jealousy had taken flight
later susanna and James were arrested
I was now living alone and tested

[Anthem]

(Instrumental)

[Miriam]
(Verse 14)
Rise up when you’re living on your knees, you rise up
Tell your brother that he’s gotta rise up
Tell your sister that she's gotta rise up

(Verse 15)
when are these colonies gonna rise up
when are our colonies gonna rise up
when are these colonies gonna rise up
when are our colonies gonna rise up

(Verse 16)
I imagine freedom it’s only now a memory
when’s it gonna get me
when I’m free? seven years ahead of me?
If I see it comin’, do I run or do I let it be?
Is it like a beat but with a melody?

(Verse 17)
See I never thought I’d be in captivity
where I come from survivors don’t number many
ask anybody why we living fast and we laugh reach for a loved one we have to make this moment last, that’s plenty

(Verse 18)
Scratch that
this is now a moment, and a movement
alone is where the hungriest sister with something' to prove went
foes oppose me I take a honest stand and role like Moses claiming my promised land

(Verse 19)
and if I win my independence is that a guarantee of a future for my descendants
or will the war that’s raging be lost creating freedom without defendants for my descendants

(Verse 20)
I know the action in the street’s exciting
but Jesus between all the bleeding and fighting
I’ve been flirting and working
I need to handle my financial situation
do I love the colonist
or the rich french optimist

(Verse 21)
I’m past patiently waiting
I’m passionately smashing every expectation
every actions an act of creation
I’m laughing in the face of casualties and sorrows
for the first time I’m thinking past tomorrow.
