WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden faces growing calls from Texas Democrats and others to take federal control of the Texas National Guard if Gov. Greg Abbott won’t back down in his clash with the administration over immigration enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Abbott has relied heavily on the state’s National Guard to implement his nearly 3-year-old Operation Lone Star, a multibillion-dollar border security initiative that has sparked an escalating series of jurisdictional confrontations with the federal government.
