Looking to solidify your career with the Downtown Cab Company? Then invest in your very own taxicab, and buckle up for reviews like "Noisy engine, but the vibrations are fun. 3/5", "Why does it smell like cured meat? 2/5" and "Driver blasted Rebel Radio, ran red lights, and flipped the bird at anyone within 20 feet. 5/5. Would recommend.
The Taxi is a four-door, sedan-based taxicab featured in almost every title in the Grand Theft Auto series. It is manufactured by Vapid in the HD Universe.
Distinguishable by its yellow livery and a bright "TAXI" sign mounted on the roof, it is often one of the most common vehicles on the road. At least one type or variant of taxi appears in all Grand Theft Auto series; the London Cab serves as the main taxi in both Grand Theft Auto: London games, and the Cabbie in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
Taxis provide a means of transport for both pedestrians and, in numerous GTA titles, the player; in all HD Universe games, the player can hail NPC-driven taxis and use them to take taxi rides to destinations, which is often a quicker alternative to driving themselves.
The player can also be used to trigger taxi driver-based missions, also appearing in almost every GTA title.
Taxi companies
The Taxi's appearance across the entire GTA series has seen various different taxi firms & companies operating them:
Borgnine Taxis (GTA III, GTA Advance, GTA Liberty City Stories; Borgnine)
Downtown Cab Co (GTA V and GTA Online)
Express Car Service (GTA IV; Roman's Taxi)
Kaufman Cabs (GTA Vice City)
L.C.C. Taxis (GTA IV and EFLC)
Mean Street Taxis (GTA III and GTA Liberty City Stories)
Sunnyside Taxis (GTA San Andreas)
Vice City Cabs (GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories)
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
The Taxis in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online are based on the second generation Stanier, which is in turn based on the 1998–2011 Crown Victoria.

The Taxi is operated by the Downtown Cab Co. taxi company, appearing with a yellow primary color and blue secondary color (inspired by the scheme of the Checker Cab Company, Los Angeles), and uses a set of circular hubcaps and medium-profile tires with standard tread pattern (different to those of the Stanier-based police cars in the same game). Similar to its GTA IV equivalents, the Taxi will appear with regular taxi lights or variants with rooftop advertisements for "Caca", "Le Chien", "Vanilla Unicorn", or "Die Already 4", which can also detach in collisions. It also bears orange beacon lights on both ends.

In Grand Theft Auto Online, players must have at least one dollar on hand to call the taxi company, even though the cost of the trip will be deducted from the player's bank account after the trip. Additionally, if the player does not have enough cash on hand to pay for the trip when it concludes, they will receive a two-star wanted level and the cost will not be deducted from the bank account.
