Cocke County TN Bodycam Footage of Deputy's Shooting

On February 8, 2024, Blount County Sheriff Deputy Greg McCowan was shot and killed while tasing Kenneth Wayne DeHart Jr., who was pulled over for erratic driving. DeHart refused to comply with the deputies and slammed his door shut, pointed his gun out the window, and shot both officers. Dashcam footage shows DeHart firing an additional shot before driving away, and he is heard saying, 'I told you motherf******s.' McCowan was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.Show more

Kenneth Dehart, a previously convicted felon murdered Cocke County TN Sheriff's Deputy Greg McCowan in cold blood and also attempted to kill Deputy Shelby Eggers.

Deputy Shelby Eggers effected a traffic stop on DeHart as he appeared to be impaired. As seen in the dashcam footage from Deputy Eggers patrol vehicle, DeHart was all over the road and had repeatedly crossed the double-yellow line.

Passersby stopped to assist Deputy Eggers as she was attempting to place a tourniquet on her leg to save her own life and was therefore unable to render aid to Deputy McCowan due to her own injuries.
