Is McDonald's India Serving Up a Cheese Deception? You Be the Judge!
McDonald's India West and South managing director Saurabh Kalra has clarified on LinkedIn that the burger chain uses real cheese in its products, in accordance with its global standards. This clarification came after a McDonald's branch in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, faced a ban from the Maharashtra FDA for allegedly using dairy alternatives instead of real cheese.
Kalra emphasized that McDonald's is committed to quality and always uses the best ingredients. He stated that the company is proud to serve products made with real, good ingredients, including real cheese made from milk.
The controversy surrounding McDonald's cheese arose when the Maharashtra FDA suspended the license of the Ahmednagar branch for using dairy substitutes and wrongfully labeling them as "cheese." This action was seen as a deceptive practice towards consumers.
In response to the FDA's action, Maharashtra FDA minister Dharmarao Baba Atram has called for a broader crackdown on the use of dairy substitutes in food products, including items like shrikhand and cheese. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also called for a nationwide ban on McDonald's, alleging the use of fake raw materials in its products.
