Fast sailing from Nova Scotia abruptly slows as I approach Quahog Bay, in Harpswell, Maine. Then the breeze dies altogether and I am obliged to use my sculling to cover last quarter mile to the anchorage. I visit with my father, who lives there, and provision for the next southbound hop to Cape Cod. I depart Maine in sparkling clear weather but temperatures are now dropping below freezing in the early morning.
