26 BARGES 'BREAK LOOSE' HEADING DOWN THE OHIO RIVER, SHUTTING DOWN MULTIPLE BRIDGES

Law enforcement has shut down multiple bridges, including the McKees Rocks Bridge in Pittsburgh, and halted all traffic due to this incident. 23 were loaded, and 3 were empty, with 6 jamming up against the Emsworth Dam.

Meanwhile, in January, this warning was issued by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers: “The Emsworth Dams are presently in an exigent situation.  4 significant project features were identified to have a high risk of failure.”

“If Emsworth pool is lost, 2 major facilities dependent on river transport would be impacted, including US Steel Clairton Wks, the largest coke plant in US & Bailey/Enslow Fork Complex…largest underground coal mine in the US. Dist in coal supply & transpo would also impact steel plants & coal-fired electric ⚡️ plants.”
