Venice residents protest against payment system

Venice residents on Thursday (April 25) staged a protest against the introduction of a payment system for tourists, aimed to thin the crowds that throng the canals during the peak holiday season. Giovanni Andrea Martini, a member of an opposition group in the Town Hall, said the new ticketed system "regulates nothing" and that the city will still suffer from over-tourism.
