"He Discovered that Bowel Movements Felt Good in the Diaper" (March 2020)

One of the most damning pieces of evidence in Ditchstory, with Andrew's bizarre behavior retold to a clinician by Andrew's mother. Jan often reiterates that many of Andrew's bad behaviors are new and his more stereotypical 'autistic' traits appeared only after he was correctly diagnosed by Dr. Santamaria with schizoaffective disorder, Andrew's correct diagnosis and one he refuses to accept to this day.

Transcript of important quotes:

"Mother states that he wants others to do everything for him. Mom states that "he wants control" and "he is lazy"."

"Parents rented an apartment for him- mom was paying rent for 8 months until she couldn't pay anymore due to sudden surgery- lived alone."

"Mother states that Andrew abused them verbally, mentally, and had gone after mother (prompting neighbors to call police), as Andrew had knife at mom's back."

"Applied on his own, got a full time job at McDonald's- working nights for 1.5 years. He was let go from McDonald's then stayed home and did nothing all day."

"Can use a stove top and oven and microwave- he knows how to cook- chili, can makea sandwich (bologna, ham), can cook eggs, made a chicken dinner for parents ("it was so good, I couldn't believe he did it. He got the recipe off the Internet.").

"Mom states that "he is incontinent" but she is "not sure how bad that is." Initially started around 20 or 22 and it was just urine- until he discovered that "bowel movements felt good in the diaper and all of the sudden he couldn't make it to the bathroom."

"Mom states that he would fake bladder infections by dying the toilet red (but she knew, as she was a nurse, that this was not so). Mom states that Andrew wears a diaper so that he can "sit in front of the computer for hours on end and not get up. He said that he knows when to go."

"He is capable of cleaning up after himself but won't "because he's lazy" and "wants everyone to clean him up."

"At about 20 (when the incontinence began), "he was adamant about briefs- he wanted tab diapers and wanted someone to put them on for him. Mom helped him in the beginning then told him to do it himself, which he did."

"He then started to talk about an Autism diagnosis "about a year and a half ago, in the fall." She stated that he "did not act like he had autism before going to Santa Maria in November 2017." Mom recalled the diagnosis of Schizo-Affective Disorder- which he disagreed with and told her "I don't have Schizophrenia."

"Mom recalls that Andrew started talking about "meltdowns" and being "overwhelmed" "about 6 months ago." She recalls he started headbanging "3 months ago" and noted that the behavior has become more frequent and intense every time he does not get his way."

"Mom and Dad believe that he wants "somebody to cater to him" and that his "inability" to care for himself is out of choice, not due to the inability to due so."
