In this video, Amber and I go on a crabbing and rockfishing charter combo with J&M Sportfishing in Monterey CA again! This one takes you out to crab and fish for rockfish at the same time. The rockfish segment is brief as it focuses more on crabbing, but still a nice breath of fresh air c: A super fun trip, super nice huge crabs, and neat rockfish. The crabs that were caught were Dungeness crabs and red rock crabs, I think there was a stone rock crab but I'm not sure. For the rockfish, I only caught gopher rockfish, as well as one copper rockfish. These rockfish are really beautiful :) Had a really fun day, big shoutout to J&M Sportfishing, excellent service and friendly people as always, 10/10 would go again :D

00:00 Beginning, Crabbing Segment
00:32 How to measure Dungeness crabs for West Coast Crabs
01:15 A nice haul from a crab pot c:
01:35 Another quick tutorial on how to handle and measure crabs, plus throwing back the short ones, then a bunch of chonky bois
04:15 One of each, red rock crab and dungeness crab, both huge haha c:

Rock Fish Segment:
04:33 Finally made it to the action intro lol
05:19 A fellow angler spared me a huge jighead + swimbait combo as the weight and lure. I have a shrimp fly higher up c: also showcasing my gear
05:45 The rig snapped :c so I remade one with a leftover shrimp fly attached to a 6 oz torpedo. The thought process was to dangle down into crevices and entice fish out, which worked out for me lol
06:09 First rockfish, a gopher rockfish :D unfortunately can't #firstfishfreedom this guy, rockfish super deep get the bends when reeled up. No #firstfishfreedom this video, which is okay because we aren't going to waste the fish, they went to a good friend and family c:
06:44 Rock fish fishing tip (gopher rockfish) explained with multiple catches

Crabbing Segment Part 2:
08:32 Back to Crabbing c:
08:45 Refilling crab bait jars with leftover bait, donated from my bait (I didn't catch anything with my sardines lol) as well as other baits from other anglers. We all chipped in to help the next crew's haul!
09:17 Just a bunch of crabbing shots, sit back and enjoy c:
09:51 A pregnant female Dungeness crab, you gotta them back the pregnant ones so they may make more crabs!
10:55 A crabs and a giant Pacific Sea Nettle in the crab pot
11:30 Back in the harbor, the trip is over, outro, thanks for watching!

#firstfishfreedom is a tradition that I started a while back. The basis for this tradition is to release the first fish you catch, regardless of what it is (prized, PB, good eats, maybe even world record someday haha). I will only keep the first fish if it is gravely wounded or gut shotted (and a species I can legally keep). If I keep the first fish, then I will pass on the tradition to the second fish, and so forth. Any day of fishing is a blessing, catching a fish and beating the skunk is another blessing on top of that, so I want to return that blessing and luck back to the fish, so they may live another day, get bigger, and maybe I catch them again in the future c:

Gear Showcase In This Video (These links help support my channel, as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases :D)

https://amzn.to/3OyWpq4 (Okuma Nomad Express, this rod is pretty beefy, I'd get this guy for charter boats. It's also a travel rod that comes with a case, might be handy if you like to travel and fish. I like to also use this while jetty fishing because it's strong c:)

https://amzn.to/37JqGBU (Daiwa BG 4500 (paired with 40 lb braided), a pretty solid saltwater reel, great choice for charter boat fishing, can handle potentially larger catches out in sea)

https://amzn.to/3Kgo38c (I normally use braided, my default line for general purpose is 20 lb Power Pro Spectra Braided Line, Moss Green. Choose the lb you need for what you're targeting, but you can never go wrong with this brand).^You may be able to find some of this gear cheaper locally, don't forget to support your local small-business owner tackle shops!
