Lollipop Chainsaw a 2012 action adventure hack and slash Zombie smashing video game developed by Grasshopper A collaboration between game designer Goichi Suda (also known by his nickname Suda51) and filmmaker James Gunn, the game was published in Japan by Kadokawa Games and internationally by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in June 2012.

It features Juliet Starling who is voiced by Tara Strong in English and by both Eri Kitamura in the Xbox 360 version and Yoko Hikasa in the PlayStation 3 version in Japanese - with limited uncensored versions allowing the player to change between the two voices after completing the game once, a cheerleader zombie hunter fighting zombies in a fictional California high school. It received generally mixed reviews from critics and has sold just over a million copies. This game was not well reviewed but has a Strong Cult Fan Base.

In July 2022, Kadokawa Games successor Dragami Games announced a remaster titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP set to release in 2024.

When you think of the greatest PlayStation 3 games of all time you may think of. And you wouldn't be wrong but let me tell you about my favorite ps3 game. a game that barely sold a million copies in 12 years, A game that was largely criticized by publications of the day, and a game that has never had a sequel even though it's ending left it wide open for one. Lollipop chain saw, this is a game that ambitiously tackles a lot of deep and difficult subjects about the pressures and struggles of highschool, and sends some incredibly important messages to the player. Nah im just messing with you, all we can learn from Lollipop chain saw is Cheerleder + Chainsaw + Zombies = Fun. That and if your boyfriend gets bitten by a zombie there is only 1 thing you can do... Cut his head off bind it to a magical spell and carry him around on your ass of course.

For me this is the greatest PlayStation 3 game of all time not because it's deep narrative although it does manage to sneak in a small amount of meaning about the effects of bullying people who are different, but because of its fun Factor. For the most part this is a game never takes itself too seriously. It seperates itself from games of the time with it's very adult based humor and dialog, its funny supporting cast, and its amazing combination of comic style art that are sewn into every aspect of the game, even into it's cinematic cutscenes. The art direction makes you feel like youre in a comic book, from the more obious heavy character lines, over the top costumes and characters, to more suble things like a dot art comic book style overlay that subltel sits over the gameplay. Combine with the Sparkle power up system , its hilarious 1 liners, and it's amazing soundtrack of 80's, oldies, and modern music you might not even realize why this game feels so different, it's beacuse Every aspect of this game was done with such great care, such amazing attention to detail, you can tell this was a passion project for Goichi Suda in colaboration with filmmaker James Gun and was not a game made hastily with a gimmick to sell copies.

you use a chain saw that doubles as a gun and a phone combine with your cheerleading skills to take on the (5 bosses) with a DMC like combo score system and level grading there are lots of new combos to unlock and replayability of each area. It's unique resource is the collecting of Sparkles which you get by de captitaing zombies of courese. These sparkely allows you to power up your sparkle gauge which then triggers the Cheerleader anthem HEY Mickey, and allows Juliet to pretty much 1 shot everthing in her path. The combat isn't incredibly deep or challenging, but it does one thing so many games just fail to get right thrse days. It's fun! It's damn fun.

The enemies and boss fights often poke fun the Pop Culture of the time, as well as the strange world that is highschool. At one point you even play a game of Basketball against a team of jock zombies.

the Combination of Cinematics and Comic Style cutscenes , the comic book style interface really artwork is awesome and fresh. Even the loading screens have comic book flair to them. There is a barely noticeable comic book dot overlay to the entire game, which is Lollipops version of Film Grain, its so subtle but really amazing, and it makes you feel even more like youre living out a comic book adventure. Every aspect of this game was done with such great care, such amazing attention to detail, you can tell this was a passion project for Goichi Suda in colaboration with filmmaker James Gun and was not a game made hastily with a gimmick to sell copies. In my opinion this is the best game to ever be released on the Ps3

with its Iconic soundtrack, iconic look , and off the wall original story, its no suprise this game has a deep cult following, what suprised me is that the game is being remade and will be called Repop, a strange choiuce considering the game has just barely sold over 1,000,000 copies in the last 12 years, and really only has a Cult Fan Base. The game was widely dismissed among critics at the time,so my guess is a remake will be nothing more than a money grab banking on selling a realistic looking juliet with jiggle physics, and a bunch of new constumes to play dress up with. What is important to know is that this remake wont preserve the Comic book look, will have a new soundtrack, and does not have the original writers or devs involved in the game.

This is a game I think most people will actually like, where as a very small % of people caught in a youtube , reddit, and twitter x fueled culture war regarding character design and games, will either LOVE it or Hate is based on what side of that converstaion youre on. most of us honestly just don't care what a female protgonist looks like or judge a game based only on that. I know I don't, when I play a game the first thing I am looking for is the Fun Factor, followed by good gameplay, and Lollipop Chainsaw delivers on both of those. Other things I care about are, Artistic design, soundtrack and soundsapces, a fresh narrative, humor, and on the rare occasion we get games like hellblade and like Red Dead 2 , an emotionjaly moving experience. While I would never say Lollipop chainsaw is an emotionaly moving game, it actually checks a lot of those boxes.

However If you're an extra honrny gamer you'll probably like this game regardless of the gameplay but if you fall into that catagory you might be better of waiting for Repop as I feel you are who that remake is being designed for. If you are in the camp of women cant be attractive or wear anything other a paper sack and should not express the slightest bit of sexuality you'll hate this game. The other 99%.of you will probably at least enjoy it to some degree.

Lollipop chainsaw is just another example Games really need to be preserved in their original state as art, and if you are unable to play this game because like most people your PS3 stopped working a year after you bought it, there are ways you can play this game that youtube will not allow me to tell you about, just be careful when looking, because you wont find anything but virus's and malware infected files from the results on google search.
