LeadingAge South Carolina President and CEO Kassie South says the Biden administration’s new rule requiring minimum staffing numbers in nursing homes will create backlogs in hospital systems and shut down nursing homes. “In the first year of implementation, we would need 27,000 additional full-time RNs to meet this mandate and 78,000 additional full-time nurse aids. They are just not there already with staffing shortages,” she says.
