It's an iconic part of the Chicago skyline and a treasured piece of Chicago history, harkening to the city's 1893 World's Fair. Municipal Pier was officially renamed Navy Pier in 1927 as a tribute to the Navy personnel who were housed at the Pier during World War I. Fifty years later, Navy Pier was designated a Chicago landmark. The Navy Pier stretches for more than 3,000 feet along the city's shoreline of Lake Michigan.
