France prison van attack: ‘Unprecedented’ manhunt for escaped prisoner

A massive manhunt is underway in northern France following a daring prison escape during a deadly ambush.

Mohamed Amra, dubbed “The Fly”, broke free while being transported back to jail from a court in Normandy.

The escape occurred when armed assailants rammed his prison van at a toll booth and opened fire, killing two officers and injuring three.

This marks the country’s first fatal attack on prison staff in over 30 years, prompting an extensive search effort involving 450 law enforcement personnel.

French President Emmanuel Macron assured the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice, the BBC has reported.
