EW: Judge releases the man accused of shooting his stepmother in the neck and stomping on her head after she tried to hug him at a graduation ceremony
Judge Emeterio Rudolfo called the shooting a seemingly random act of violence
Rudolfo ruled 21-year-old Cristian Bencomo could be released on a GPS monitor and house arrest where he’ll live with his grandma
“After he shot her and she fell to the ground he started stomping on her head” The victim’s sister said
The shooting happened at the Albuquerque Convention Center during a charter school graduation ceremony last week
The victim is in stable condition and expected to recover
“According to the victim this was unprovoked she has no idea why this happened they haven’t fought he didn’t say anything to her ahead of time” said State Attorney Casey McKim
